Salmo is a small town in the West Kootenays dissected by Erie Creek and the Salmo River.
Salmo is located only 49km from the famous picturesque mountain and lake community of Nelson. Salmo has plenty of character of it's own and is an attraction for movie makers. The movie "Out Cold" starring Lee Majors; and "The Tall Man" starring Jessica Biel are 2 examples. Salmo has it's own community ski hill and is very close to the larger facilities of Whitewater and Red Mountain.
The community has a hardware store, drug store, medical center with 2 doctors, two grocery stores, two automotive shops, five restaurants, outdoor pool, golf course, elementary and high school, rec center, curling rink, skateboard park, campground, and much more. The area is a haven for fisherman, hunters, cross country skiers, snowmobilers, hikers, rafters, bird watchers, nature lovers, and almost any type of outdoor enthusiast. All this is only a half hour from major box stores such as WallMart, and Canadian Tire in your choice of 3 different directions. Regular scheduled air Canada flights land at the Castlegar Airport only one half hour away.
